Project Tracking System

Project overview

An engineering team requested a new project request system to track custom engineering-based projects.

They needed a project specification form/project management tool to serve as a central place for all ongoing projects. The system required an approval flow so that all involved parties could sign-off/agree to a project and some timeline function to identify milestone dates.

Business Value

The Project Tracking System's value is in providing more structure, organization, and transparency for a wide variety of custom engineering projects. The jET team, scientists, and administrative staff benefit from having the mutual information that this system provides.

My Role

The Project System was the first project that I worked on from the ground up, and I started it my first week in the position. I was eager to get started and learn more about this team of engineers and simplify the administrative process of tracking projects while creating transparency for their customers.

Research: By visiting the engineering team in their work environment, I learned a bit about their team, the different services, and how their current process works. I also made it a priority to meet with some of the customers who use the engineering team's services to learn more about their experiences and create a system that factored in their needs. Once we had our requirements gathered, I was responsible for conducting a competitor analysis to ensure we did not spend time and resources creating something that already exists.

Design: I organized a brainstorming session with the development team to create a plan for the system framework and a timeline. I was responsible for mapping out the system's workflows, creating high-fidelity mockups, drafting notifications that the system would send, and change management.
